Do you need a coach?
Not everyone does. But more people do than think they do. Answer these 14 questions honestly, add up your score, and find out where you stand — including whether a human coach or an AI tool is the better fit right now.
How to score each question: Read each statement and pick the option that's most true for you right now. Write down the number next to your choice. Add up all 14 numbers at the end.

Yes, this is mePart 1 — Where you are right now
1. I find myself having the same internal conversations over and over without anything actually changing.
2. There's a decision I've been putting off for longer than I can honestly justify.
3. My life looks fine on the outside but feels off on the inside.
4. I know something needs to change but I can't quite name what it is.
Part 2 — Your patterns
5. I'm the person everyone else comes to for advice, but I have nobody genuinely in my corner.
6. I self-sabotage when things start going well, or find reasons not to start at all.
7. I've outgrown something — a job, a relationship, a version of myself — but can't seem to let go of it.
8. I keep starting things and not finishing them, or finishing things and feeling nothing.
Part 3 — Support and honesty
9. The advice I get from people around me is too safe, too biased, or too close to the situation to be useful.
10. I've held back from asking for help because I didn't think I'd earned it or deserved it.
11. I need someone to be honest with me in a way the people in my life can't or won't be.
Part 4 — Momentum and accountability
12. I know what needs to change but accountability has always been the missing piece.
13. I'm waiting for the right moment to start. That moment hasn't arrived yet.
14. If nothing changes in the next year, that thought genuinely unsettles me.

What your score means
20 — 28 points
You needed a coach yesterday.
You're carrying a lot and you've been doing it alone for a while. The patterns are clear, the momentum is stuck, and the people around you either can't see it or won't say it. This isn't a sign something is wrong with you. It's a sign you're ready. A human coach is the right move.
12 — 19 points
Something is asking for your attention.
Things aren't falling apart but something is quietly misaligned. You might not be in crisis but you're not fully moving either. This is actually the best time to start — before the stakes get higher.
6 — 11 points
You're in a relatively stable place.
Coaching could still be useful but it's not urgent. You might benefit more right now from good books, peer communities, or structured self-reflection. If a specific transition comes up, that's the moment to reach out.
0 — 5 points
Not the right moment.
You're either in a genuinely good place or not yet ready to engage with the kind of honest work coaching requires. Both are fine. Come back when something shifts.
Human coach or AI — which do you actually need?
AI coaching tools are getting genuinely useful. They're available at 2am, they don't judge, and for some things they're exactly right. But they're not the same as a human coach. Here's an honest breakdown.
An AI tool might be enough if...
You need habit tracking, frameworks, or accountability reminders
You're working on a specific skill like interview prep or time management
You want to think out loud without feeling like you're burdening someone
You're not ready to be challenged yet and need to process first
Budget is a genuine constraint right now
You need a human coach when...
The work involves identity, belonging, or questions without clean answers
You need someone who reads what you're not saying as much as what you are
Accountability from a real relationship is what actually moves you
You're navigating something emotionally complex — a transition, a loss, a crossroads
You've tried figuring it out alone and it hasn't worked
Sometimes both — in that order
Start with an AI tool to get your thoughts organized. Then bring the real questions to a human coach. They're not competing. They're different tools for different parts of the work.
If your score was above 12 and something in this resonated, the next step is a conversation. No commitment, no agenda. Just thirty minutes to figure out if this makes sense.
